We just finished our New Beginnings night for the Young Women in our ward and it turned out pretty nice. Since the theme this year is "Come unto Christ and be perfected in Him and deny yourselves from all ungodliness", we thought a good theme to go off of that for our individual ward would be "Depend on the Savior" aka "D.O.T.S".
We're going to try to include reminders for them throughout the whole year by using dots...lots and lots of dots. I was silly and didn't get pictures of the other side of the room with the refreshments and more amazing pictures of the Savior. We had a Christ statue right next to the DOTS letters up front. I'm not sure why I didn't think to take pictures of the whole room but it looked pretty cute. Some of the YW helped decorate so it was really fun to get them involved.
I looked up "come unto me" in the scriptures and was amazed at all of the different times the Savior has made that invitation to us and pleaded with us to follow Him. I thought a few of them worked well with certain Young Women values so I decided to put them on 8x10 card stock paper and display them instead of just the normal value definitions that usually gets displayed. It added a more personal application having to do with the theme this year.
You can download those on the website HERE
For a hand out we gave them some dots to stick on their mirrors, lockers, cars, etc. to remind them to depend on the Savior each day. We also gave them these canvas posters to hang on their walls. They were actually pretty easy to make and throw together for a cool look.
You can either print these out yourselves on a big printer or have Costco or another store do them for you. These are meant for the 12x16 canvases that Michael's has. They come in a pack of 7 and are $20.00 but I like to use my 50% off coupons and get them for 1/2 off. You could also tell your printer to print whatever size you want that is smaller like 11x17 or 11x14 or 8x10, etc. I think 5x7 would be cute too framed in those IKEA frames. Anyway, I tried mod podge on one but I didn't really like the look and i think I did it wrong anyway but I was in a big hurry, so I opted for fabric SPRAY glue and it worked like a charm. Because it was spray it didn't leave any bubbles and the stick on it was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
